October 1, 2014 | Posted by CDC Emergency Preparedness and Response: What''s NewCDC is working closely with partners in Colorado and other state and local health departments to investigate an acute neurologic illness of unknown etiology occurring in children. Characterized by focal limb weakness and abnormalities of the spinal cord gray matter on MRI, a cluster of these illnesses was first reported from Colorado in September, 2014. These neurological findings are coincident with an increase of respiratory illnesses among children. During this COCA Call, clinicians will learn about the latest situation, surveillance, and CDC clinical guidance for testing, patient evaluation and case reporting.
